About Gilliana

Gilliana (Jill) Shiskin is a lawyer at Craig Hooker Shiskin practicing criminal defence and prison law. She earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Calgary, where she received the Pro Bono Students Canada Volunteer of the Year award and founded the Society of Animal Defence, Calgary Law Students. She studied International Economic Law, Human Rights and Sustainability in Luzern, Switzerland through a Norton Rose International Study Grant, and holds a Master's degree in Philosophy (Logic and Language) from the University of Alberta and a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy from the University of British Columbia. Before law, she worked in business management and human resources at a major natural resources company, focusing on employment law and human rights issues. Gilliana appears frequently before the Alberta Court of Appeal, has handled murder and high-level drug trafficking cases, and is Vice President of the Alberta Prison Justice Society.
