Partner at Fogler, Rubinoff LLP
Gary works with Indigenous communities and their affiliated institutions across Canada on business transactions, helping form economic development groups, with much of his focus on governance and wealth creation matters. He often serves as co-counsel to prominent national law firms specializing in Aboriginal law, supporting land claims negotiations, treaty rights advocacy, and consultations between government and industry. He also advises on large commercial and industrial developments and impact benefit agreements nationwide, in sectors such as infrastructure, energy transmission, renewable power generation, logistics, and transportation. Gary has repeatedly been recognized in the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory for Indigenous Law and was named a leading Indigenous Law lawyer in the 2024 edition of Best Lawyers in Canada. He has served on the boards of numerous publicly traded and private companies across different industries, currently sitting as a director of a publicly traded wireless technology company, a private clean energy utility, a private managed equipment services company in health care, and a private platform company supporting wealth generation efforts among First Nations and their service providers. On these boards he has served on committees including Audit and Risk Management, chaired the Corporate Governance Committee, and sat on the Compensation and Human Resources Committee. Given his legal training and background as an investor, owner, and operator of private businesses, clients frequently consult him as a sounding board on both legal and business questions.
