About Gary

Gary Chayko is a senior member of the Criminal Bar in Eastern Ontario who has practised criminal law for four decades and has been certified by the Law Society as a Specialist in Criminal Law since 1993. He has appeared in criminal matters before the Supreme Court of Canada, the Ontario and Quebec Courts of Appeal, and courts in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Nunavut. Chayko earned his Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws from the University of Western Ontario and a Master of Laws from the University of London, England. He has written and edited two textbooks on forensic evidence, served on the Law Reform Commission of Canada, and is admitted to the Bar of Ontario and formerly the Bar of Nunavut. His practice covers impaired driving, fraud, murder and manslaughter, drug offences, and youth charges, and he also offers a reduced-fee disclosure review service for self-represented accused.
