Gary Chayko Criminal Defence Lawyer is a solo criminal law practice based in Manotick, a village on Ottawa's rural south side. Chayko doesn't limit the caseload to one kind of charge: the practice covers impaired driving, fraud, murder and manslaughter, drug offences, youth charges, assault, breaches of court orders, and regulatory, discipline, and customs and excise matters. Chayko has practiced criminal law in Eastern Ontario for about four decades and has been certified by the Law Society of Ontario as a Specialist in Criminal Law since 1993. Chayko has appeared in criminal matters before the Supreme Court of Canada, the Ontario and Quebec Courts of Appeal, and courts in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Nunavut.

Chayko's education took an international turn early on: a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Western Ontario, a 1979 scholarship exchange to Case Western Reserve Law School through the Canada-US Law Institute, and a Master of Laws from the University of London in England. Chayko co-edited two editions of the textbook Forensic Evidence in Canada and served on the Law Reform Commission of Canada. A large military contract negotiated with Ukraine over several years also shaped the anti-corruption side of the practice, work that later brought a recognition award from the National Guard of Ukraine.
