About Ewan

Ewan Lyttle is a partner at Lyttle McGarry Del Greco LLP, focusing on serious and large-scale criminal cases including homicide, major drug and weapons trafficking, human trafficking, and sexual assault. He was certified by the Law Society of Ontario as a Specialist in Criminal Litigation in 2015 and currently serves as president of the Defence Counsel Association of Ottawa. He has appeared at all levels of court, including the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada, and has argued complex Charter motions, including a 2018 case that struck down two Criminal Code provisions. He was appointed by the federal Justice Minister to the list of Special Advocates under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, a role requiring top-secret security clearance to represent people subject to security certificate proceedings. He has volunteered for over a decade with Ottawa's Wabano Centre and regularly takes on Indigenous client cases for free, and completed a certificate in Indigenous Studies from the University of Alberta. He studied philosophy at Saint Mary's University before graduating from the University of Ottawa's law school in 2004, articling with the Ottawa Crown Attorney's Office, and then working with defence lawyer Patrick McCann for a decade before co-founding this firm with Brett McGarry and Biagio Del Greco.
