About Don

Don Bell is a partner at Torys with extensive cross-border experience advising international organizations on large and complex transactions. His practice centers on commercial deals, including mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures, along with ongoing business law counsel for corporations and financial institutions operating in North America. Fluent in Japanese, Don previously worked for a Japanese electronics manufacturer and a business consulting firm, experience that shapes his practical approach to client service. He has advised on foreign investment into Canada, business sales, commercial lending and project finance, with experience spanning natural resource projects like mining and pulp and paper, various energy projects, and utility projects involving water and electrical distribution. Before joining Torys, he was part of another prominent Canadian firm, where he sat on its elected national Executive Committee and helped found its Tokyo office. Outside of work, Don serves as a director of the Nikkei National Museum and Cultural Centre and as president of the Bayside Residents Association in Miami, and supports several not-for-profit organizations.
