About Dereck

Dereck A. Jones is a senior family law lawyer who has practiced exclusively in the area since being called to the Alberta Bar in 1995. He holds a B.A. (Hons.) from McGill University and an LL.B. from the University of Alberta. As a litigator, he has appeared successfully at all levels of court in Alberta and in numerous arbitrations, and he also has extensive experience negotiating settlements and drafting agreements. Jones has completed the arbitration certification program through the Alternative Dispute Resolution Institute of Alberta and has served as Past Chair of the Canadian Bar Association's South Family Law Section. He is a sought-after speaker who has lectured for the Legal Education Society of Alberta, the University of Calgary, and the Calgary Board of Education, and has authored publications including an article on retroactive child support for Lawyers Weekly.
