About David A. Campbell

Start-ups, strategic buyers, institutional investors, and private equity and venture capital funds all turn to David A. Campbell, and they work across many industries. The practice is built around transactions: setting up private equity funds and the investments they make, private M&A, corporate finance, reorganizations and everyday commercial work.

David's route into corporate law began with a commerce degree from McMaster University in 2007. A JD from the University of Western Ontario came next, in 2010, and the call to the Ontario bar followed in 2011. David is now a partner at Gowling WLG, working out of the Toronto office.

David appears in the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory for 2025 and 2026, with the 2025 listing in corporate commercial law, and Thomson Reuters put David on its Stand-out Lawyers list in both 2024 and 2025. David has also co-written the firm's updates on the modernization of Ontario's Business Corporations Act, which cut shareholder approval thresholds and dropped director residency requirements.

There's a strong community streak, too. David is a director of Neighbourhood Information Post, a grassroots charity whose work centres on Regent Park and Moss Park in downtown Toronto, and has given time in the past to the George Hull Centre for Children and Families. Away from the office, David is happiest travelling, out on a bike, or walking the dogs.
