About Darrell R. J. Daley

Darrell R. J. Daley is an Ottawa partner at Gowling WLG whose real estate and financing work serves developers, home builders, private equity funds and financial institutions. Files run through the whole life of a property, from buying land and developing it to financing it and eventually selling it, and they span residential, office, retail, industrial and mixed-use assets.

Called to the Ontario bar in 2010, Darrell came to law with a cum laude LLB from the University of Ottawa and a BA from Carleton earned with highest honours. Gowling WLG made Darrell a partner effective January 1, 2018, one of 19 people admitted to its Canadian partnership that year, practising real estate in Ottawa.

Condominium work runs deep in Darrell's practice. Developers and receivers rely on Darrell to structure, declare and sell condo projects, including common elements and mixed-use buildings, and the advice keeps going through the governance, regulatory and day-to-day questions a project raises over its lifetime. Municipalities bring development matters as well, such as subdivisions and industrial land sales that carry an option to buy the land back.

In 2018 Darrell wrote an article on the amendments reshaping Ontario's Condominium Act, grouping the changes into dispute resolution, consumer protection, governance and new duties for condo managers and directors. Darrell's real estate work was listed in Best Lawyers in Canada 2022, and property development work in the 2021 Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory.
