About Cynthia Davis

Cynthia Davis is the managing partner of Giffen Lawyers LLP in Waterloo, and a litigator whose clients run from individuals to small and large corporations, associations, commercial landlords and tenants, and both private and public lenders. Court is where Cynthia does much of that work, always looking for practical, effective ways to protect each client's rights. Settling outside court isn't off the table, though: in the right case, alternative dispute resolution becomes part of the plan.

Estate litigation has been part of the practice since Cynthia was called to the bar in 2007, and it's an area Cynthia is keen to keep building. Trustees and beneficiaries alike bring their estate disputes to Cynthia. In September 2019, Cynthia joined the Waterloo Wellington Estate Planning Council.

Giving back runs deep, too. Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest named Cynthia its 2016 Woman of the Year in the professional category, and Cynthia has given time to boards ranging from KidsAbility School Authority to St. Jerome's University. Mentoring is a big part of it: Cynthia works with Giffen lawyers and students both formally and informally, has taught employment law and legal research and writing at Conestoga College, and has lectured fellow lawyers on how to approach mediation.

The local bar has felt that commitment as well. Cynthia took office as President of the Waterloo Region Law Association in April 2019 and is a past president of its Board of Trustees. The association presented Cynthia with its Coulter A. Osborne Award in 2022, recognizing a member for integrity, comity and beneficence, both in practice and in public life. Cynthia also founded FEMPOWR, a local group that supports and mentors women practising law, and in 2024 received the Pillar of the Community Award for leadership in feminist engagement and mentorship of lawyers.
