Cherie Klassen

About Cherie

Cherie Langlois-Klassen has spent more than fifteen years representing unions and their members, including the United Nurses of Alberta and the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees, in negotiations, labour disputes, arbitrations, and professional conduct matters. She previously served as director of negotiations at the Alberta Medical Association, director of labour relations at the Health Sciences Association of Alberta, and lead negotiator for the Association of Academic Staff of the University of Alberta, and earlier in her career worked in the international development non-profit sector. She has published academic articles and conference papers on health and labour law and is a clinical associate with the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Alberta. Klassen sits on the Alberta Human Rights Commission tribunal and serves as vice-chair of Alberta's Mental Health Review Panel, with a particular interest in substance-use and mental health issues in the workplace. She holds a B.Sc. (1995) and M.Sc. (1999) in pharmacology and an LL.B. (2006), was called to the Alberta bar in 2007, and is a Certified In-House Counsel of Canada and a graduate of the Business Leadership Program for In-House Counsel at the Rotman School.
