About Cam Cameron

Cam Cameron leads the Gaming & Contest Law Group at Gowling WLG and works from the firm's Ottawa office, with Indigenous law and business law making up the rest of the practice. Two specialties stand out. One is commercial work for and alongside Indigenous communities, from joint ventures to the agreements that share a project's benefits. The other is gaming law, where Cam guides companies through contest and sweepstakes rules and helps newcomers get into Ontario's online iGaming market.

Law wasn't Cam's first field. Cam earned a social work diploma at Mount Royal University in 1994, then an honours degree in political science from the University of Lethbridge, before graduating with distinction from McGill's National Law Program in 2002. Admission to the Ontario and Quebec bars came in 2005, and Cam added a call in Nunavut in 2021. Clients can work with Cam in English or French.

Cam writes and presents on commercial questions, especially the ones that touch Indigenous peoples, and has a steady run of articles on provincial iGaming markets, from Ontario's launch to Alberta's new regime. At the Supreme Court of Canada, Cam was the Ottawa agent for the Indigenous Bar Association in Canada, an intervener in Quebec's challenge to the federal Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis children, youth and families, and was set to appear at the December 2022 hearing beside Paul Seaman, who argued for the association. The Court went on to hold that the Act falls within Parliament's jurisdiction. Best Lawyers has recognized Cam in Aboriginal Law / Indigenous Practice since 2025.
