About Avani Joshi

Avani Joshi is a lawyer at SBA Lawyers LLP in Toronto, called to the Ontario bar in 2026 a year after finishing a JD at Toronto Metropolitan University. Joshi already has hands-on experience preparing pleadings and motions in civil files. Six moot and mock trial competitions added practice at arguing a case, both in writing and out loud.

Joshi makes plain, open dialogue a priority and aims to be approachable with both clients and colleagues. Some of that instinct for solving problems started at home, where Joshi learned young how to calm family drama and broker a truce.

Community work matters here too. Joshi sits on the board of Steer Friends, a non-profit serving people who live with disabilities and complex needs, and finds meaning in work that makes a difference locally. Joshi is also a co-author of a 2021 chapter in Voices of Forensic Science asking whether criminal investigations have a gold standard for forensic evidence.

Off the clock, it's dancing, reading and lifting weights, plus an ongoing hunt for Toronto's next great restaurant. Joshi's always game to try a new spot, especially when the food's good.
