Asaf Rashid runs a Halifax-based criminal defence practice that also covers immigration, prison and human rights matters. He defends clients at all levels of court in Nova Scotia, including cases involving mental health, addictions and Charter rights, and has obtained dismissals, withdrawn charges, stays of proceedings and acquittals in matters involving impaired driving, aggravated assault, fraud, firearms and drug offences. His immigration work includes inadmissibility hearings, federal court applications and permanent residency matters, with a focus on clients dealing with the Canada Border Services Agency during or after a criminal case. He also represents people at parole hearings and in habeas corpus applications, and brings complaints to the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission on behalf of clients who have experienced discrimination in employment, housing or access to services.
