About Anne-Marie
Anne-Marie McElroy grew up in Ottawa and graduated with a degree in sociology and contemporary studies from the University of King's College in Halifax before completing her law degree at the University of Ottawa in 2009. She has practised criminal law exclusively since her call to the bar in 2010, articling with Shore Davis Hale and working as an associate at Hale Criminal Law Office before joining May & Konyer, and has represented clients on matters ranging from impaired driving to assault, theft and sexual offences. She founded McElroy Law in 2015. Anne-Marie supervises Pro Bono Students Canada projects, sits on the board of Circles of Support and Accountability, has taught first-year criminal law at the University of Ottawa and mentors female defence lawyers through the Women in Canadian Criminal Defence mentorship program. She previously served as a director of the Ottawa Defence Counsel Association from 2016 to 2020 and sat on the Adult Community Justice Network. Her legal blog won the 2015 and 2016 Canadian Law Blog 'Clawbie' awards, and she has provided media commentary on criminal law for local radio and television.
