About Anna Chen

Fights over a will, a trust, an inheritance or the way an estate is being run are the core of Anna Chen's practice as an associate in Gowling WLG's Toronto office. Anna is a litigator in the firm's global Private Client Services Group, with estate law and estate litigation at the centre, and disputes over dividing family property come up too. Executors, administrators and trustees rely on Anna, and so do heirs and beneficiaries. Anna aims to settle things through negotiation or mediation, and goes to court when a matter needs it.

Anna was first called to the bar in British Columbia in 2015, after finishing a JD at the University of Toronto the year before. In February 2018 Fasken announced that Anna, then working in its Vancouver office, was joining its Private Client Services Group in Toronto, and the Ontario call came that same year. With admissions in both provinces, Anna has helped clients in both provinces through estate disputes, and by 2018 that experience already included claims to vary a will where someone had been disinherited or left without adequate provision.

Family law is part of the practice as well, and Anna has a particular interest in where it overlaps with estates, since the two fields often meet. Clients can work with Anna in English or Mandarin.

Between 2018 and 2025 Anna wrote a series of posts for the All About Estates blog, most recently on whether an attorney for personal care can keep family from visiting someone in a long-term care home. Anna has also presented to CLE BC in Vancouver on wills variation.
