About Andrew

Andrew Pilliar is a mediator, lawyer, and law professor who focuses on family and civil mediation, helping clients reach timely, cost-effective, and appropriate resolutions to disputes. Andrew has lectured and taught dispute resolution to judges, mediators, arbitrators, lawyers, and law students, and has mediated family disputes, construction litigation, complex multi-party commercial disputes, personal injury matters, and other civil disputes. Andrew trained in mediation with Mediate BC and the Justice Institute of British Columbia and is accredited as a Family Law Mediator by the Law Society of BC. Before turning to mediation, Andrew's legal practice included family law, construction litigation, and personal injury and medical negligence matters, at both a large national firm and smaller civil litigation and family law offices, and also included work as a law clerk for the BC Supreme Court. Andrew's academic work focuses on access to justice, particularly helping self-represented people use mediation effectively. Andrew holds law degrees from UBC and the University of Toronto, and a degree in biology and physics from Queen's University.
