About Andrea Leung

Andrea Leung gives practical, strategic advice aimed at keeping employment relationships healthy over the long run, and enjoys getting ahead of workplace problems rather than waiting for them to grow. Andrea is an associate in the Waterloo Region office of Gowling WLG, part of its Employment, Labour & Equalities Group, and was called to the Ontario bar in 2024. Andrea also writes for employers about workplace law, from Ontario overtime rules to human rights accommodation.

Before law, there was international development. Andrea's University of Toronto degree in that field included a full year in rural India with a community development group whose work centred on women's empowerment. Two years in administration and fundraising at the charity Tearfund Canada followed, and the tie has lasted: Andrea now sits on its board of directors.

While earning a cum laude JD at the University of Ottawa, Andrea took on work at a Toronto community legal clinic and spent an internship with the in-house lawyers at Dairy Farmers of Ontario. In 2023 Andrea and teammate Julie Huber represented uOttawa at the Canadian Client Consultation Competition, hosted by the University of Alberta, and finished 7th of 13 teams from across the country. The judges praised the pair for how well they connected with clients and for explaining options clearly.

Away from the office, Andrea plays ultimate frisbee, heads out hiking, and makes time for three sisters.
