About Alicia

Alicia Backman-Beharry is a Canadian immigration lawyer with over 20 years of experience, and she was called to the Alberta bar in 2003. She holds a B.A. (Hon.) from the University of Calgary and an LL.B. from the University of Alberta. Before joining Holthe Immigration Law in 2020, she worked as an associate at several firms, as a part-time program lawyer at a non-profit legal clinic, and as a solo practitioner. Her practice covers business immigration matters such as Labour Market Impact Assessments, work permits, and intra-company transfers, along with permanent residence applications including Express Entry, Provincial Nominee Programs, and family sponsorship. She also handles litigation involving inadmissibility and refugee proceedings before federal and provincial courts and tribunals. She has volunteered extensively with the Canadian Bar Association's Immigration Law Section and served nine years on the board of an organization serving immigrants.
