About Alexander
Alexander Ostroff is an associate at Edward H. Royle & Partners LLP whose criminal defence practice centres on appellate work. He graduated from McGill University's transsystemic law program in 2014, earning degrees in both common and civil law, and while in school he worked with the Center for Research-Action on Race Relations on cases of discrimination and racial profiling, including complaints before the Quebec Human Rights Commission. Before joining Royle, he was an appellate associate at a leading Toronto criminal defence firm. Alexander appears regularly before the Court of Appeal for Ontario, arguing conviction appeals on his own and alongside senior partners, including a number of complex murder cases as well as firearms, criminal organization, and sexual offence matters. He has also secured sentence reductions on appeal, including cases where a trial judge failed to properly weigh an Indigenous client's circumstances, and has obtained new trials, acquittals, and Court-ordered funding for appeals that Legal Aid Ontario had initially denied. He speaks French in addition to English.
