About Resolve

Resolve is a small conflict resolution centre in Toronto that helps people work through separation, cohabitation, and other relationship agreements entirely outside of court. Alexa Turner and Victoria Smith founded the practice together in 2018. Victoria practiced family law and mediation for more than 35 years before stepping back from client work, and had already built a reputation as an early adopter of collaborative family law in Ontario. Victoria coauthored the book "Collaborative Family Law: Another Way to Resolve Family Disputes" and taught as an adjunct professor of collaborative lawyering at Osgoode Hall Law School. Alexa left a Bay Street litigation practice, representing families in medical negligence matters, to focus on settlement work instead. Another family member later joined the team after a similar move away from courtroom litigation at a Bay Street firm.

The team works only through collaborative practice and mediation, drafting separation agreements, marriage and cohabitation contracts, and agreements for people outside a couple relationship, including friends or family members buying property together or business co-owners. Alongside client files, Resolve also runs workshops and training for conflict professionals internationally and writes on conflict literacy. Alexa Turner also teaches on settlement advocacy.
