About Guthrie Law

Clients rate this firm highly on Google.

Guthrie Law is a small Toronto firm that has provided legal services for more than 15 years. It was founded by Nicole Guthrie, who holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from York University, a Master's degree from the University of Windsor, and a Juris Doctor from Howard University School of Law in Washington, D.C. Guthrie belongs to the New York State Bar Association and the Bar Association of Ontario, and interned with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission and the Internal Revenue Service while studying at Howard.

The firm today has two lawyers and several legal support staff covering immigration, family law, real estate, wills and estates, and corporate law. Sami Has, licensed in both Alberta and Ontario, focuses on immigration, refugee, estate, and real estate files. Elif Demiroglu, called to the Ankara Bar in 2020, supports the immigration team while working toward NCA accreditation to become a licensed lawyer in Canada. Clients can meet the group in person, by video, or through WhatsApp, in Spanish or Turkish as well as English, with evening and weekend appointments available on request.

The neighbourhood

Guthrie Law's Toronto office sits on the second floor of the East York Work Co. building, which also houses a Royal Lepage Urban Realty office, on Pape Avenue between Browning and Fulton Avenues. It's a short walk from Pape subway station, and the firm points clients to limited free parking behind the building off Fulton Avenue.

Guthrie Law also keeps by appointment offices in Burlington, Hamilton, Grimsby, Niagara Falls, and St. Catharines, each in a shared workspace building rather than a staffed branch. The St. Catharines location, on Lake Street near King and James Streets in the downtown core, is one of these spaces; clients are asked to call ahead so someone can let them in. The arrangement lets the firm reach the Niagara Region and Hamilton area without keeping year round offices in each town.
