Berger Law Firm, also known as the Law Offices of Ken J. Berger, is a Toronto litigation practice that has operated since 2008. It's a sole practice, with Ken J. Berger handling matters in administrative law, civil litigation, health law, criminal defence, and sports and entertainment law for businesses, healthcare providers, professionals, and individuals. The firm takes on cases in Ontario, in other Canadian provinces that recognize Ontario counsel (Quebec is excluded), and in New York State, and it regularly provides independent legal advice to clients who already have their own lawyer, sometimes acting as co-counsel.
Berger holds a JD from Osgoode Hall Law School and was admitted to practice in Ontario and New York in 2008, later gaining admission to the United States Supreme Court in 2015 and to the federal court for the Western District of New York. Berger's biography also lists medical credentials alongside the law degree, including CCFP (family medicine), CCFP(EM) (emergency medicine), and a diploma in sports medicine. Since 2010, Berger has served as Vice President and a Board of Governors member of the World Association of Medical Law, and holds an appointment as Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. That combined background in law and medicine shapes the firm's focus on cases where health, science, or medicine intersect with civil, administrative, or criminal law.
Wheelchair accessibleThe firm's office is in Suite 700 at 480 University Avenue, on the broad, landscaped boulevard that runs through the heart of downtown Toronto. The avenue is home to Osgoode Hall and the downtown courts, and its northern stretch holds a cluster of major teaching hospitals, among them Toronto General, Mount Sinai, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, and The Hospital for Sick Children, a concentration Torontonians have long nicknamed Hospital Row. For a firm built partly around health law, working from that same corridor keeps the practice close to both the hospitals and regulatory colleges that generate healthcare disputes and the courts that hear them. The University Avenue office operates by appointment only, and the firm's mail goes to a postal box on Bloor Street West rather than to that address.
