About Anchor Law
Anchor Law is a small immigration, refugee, and citizenship law practice in Toronto. Aleksandar (Alex) Jeremic founded the firm, and personal history shaped it: Jeremic's family left the Balkans for Canada during the wars of the 1990s. That background fed a lasting interest in international affairs and politics, which led to a BA in political science and an MA in politics and policy, both from the University of Toronto, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law in 2014. During law school, Jeremic worked at an Ottawa immigration law office. Articling followed at a small insurance defence firm, which brought advocacy experience in appearances before the Ontario Superior Court, before Jeremic moved into immigration and refugee work and founded Anchor Law.
Two other lawyers now work in association with the firm: Joel Covelli, who holds a master's degree in international relations and speaks Spanish, and Lorin Yurekkirmaz, called to the Ontario bar in June 2025, who is fluent in Turkish and has some understanding of Kurdish. Anchor Law handles permanent residence and citizenship applications, study and work permits, visitor visas, refugee claims, sponsorship appeals, notarial and commissioning services, and appeals and judicial reviews of refused immigration decisions at the Federal Court. The firm accepts clients whose fees are covered by Legal Aid Ontario.
