Aouchiche Law Firm is a small Toronto practice on Spadina Avenue that focuses on Canadian immigration law alongside quasi-criminal, administrative, and professional regulatory work. It advises individuals, businesses, and regulators, and represents professionals across a wide range of regulated fields, from health care to real estate to financial services, in complaints, investigations, and discipline proceedings.
The firm's founder, Sarah Aouchiche, earned a Bachelor of Laws and Civil Law degree from the University of Ottawa and was called to the Ontario bar in 2011. Aouchiche maintains a dual practice in Canada and internationally, has represented clients at all levels of court in Ontario, and appears before administrative tribunals, refugee and immigration appeal tribunals, and the Federal Court. Before entering private practice, the founder worked as a prosecutor for an enforcement-driven regulator, and has also done international humanitarian law work with the United Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross, with deployments in more than ten countries.
Donald M. Greenbaum, a Queen's Counsel, serves as counsel to the firm, having earned a law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1960 and practiced immigration law exclusively since 1962, including a term as president of the Immigration Law Section of the Canadian Bar Association. The firm's team can assist clients in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, and Russian.
The firm's office is on Spadina Avenue near Queen Street West, at the edge of the part of downtown Toronto long known as the Fashion District. In the early 20th century that stretch, bounded roughly by Spadina, Bathurst, Queen, and Front, was lined with multi-storey warehouses and factories built for the garment trade, work that drew heavily on Jewish immigrant families who settled nearby. After the Second World War the industry declined and many of those buildings were converted to other uses, and the corridor today mixes former factory lofts with condos, restaurants, and small offices.
It's a fitting stretch of the city for a firm built around immigration and regulatory law. The same blocks that once employed generations of newcomers in the garment trade are now home to small professional offices, including firms that work with more recent arrivals to Canada.
