About Yoshio

Yoshio "Joe" Sumiya graduated from the University of Alberta Faculty of Law in 2000 and has practiced in a range of areas over more than 20 years, with a primary focus on family law, including divorce, child custody and access, child and spousal support, and property division. He has also assisted clients with protection and restraining orders and represented clients in child welfare cases, and has drafted wills, powers of attorney, and personal directives. He has past experience in criminal court, real estate law, and immigration law. In law school he held leadership roles with the Canadian Bar Association's University of Alberta branch, including serving as Chair from 1999 to 2000.
