Vahan Ishkanian practised litigation for more than 40 years, focusing on workers' compensation law on behalf of injured workers and plaintiffs. He served six years as a Vice Chair at the Workers' Compensation Review Board, the predecessor to WCAT, from 1991 to 1997, deciding roughly 1,500 appeals, before returning to private practice in 1997 and acting as counsel in more than two thousand reviews and appeals. He retired from the Law Society of British Columbia in June 2025 and, as of July 2025, is no longer a practising lawyer; he has transitioned into a consulting role with the firm and plans to leave it entirely in 2027.
