About Robert
Robert D. Holmes, K.C. has extensive experience in complex litigation, including business disputes, real estate, construction, claims against government, securities litigation, shareholder actions, insolvency, commercial tenancies, partnerships, professional liability, and wills and estate disputes. He has appeared at every level of court in British Columbia, the Supreme Court of Canada, the Alberta Court of Queen's Bench, the Federal Court and Federal Court of Appeal, the Tax Court of Canada, and various securities and industry tribunals, and has conducted numerous arbitration and mediation proceedings. He was called to the bar of British Columbia in 1983, holds an LL.B. from the University of British Columbia (1981) and an LL.M. from Yale Law School (1984), and was appointed Queen's Counsel in 2010. He previously taught as an adjunct professor of law at UBC in creditors' remedies and has published and lectured on shareholder disputes, commercial law, commercial tenancy, professional liability, and alternative dispute resolution. He served as president of the Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia from 2008 to 2010 and has provided pro bono counsel to the B.C. Civil Liberties Association in several Supreme Court of Canada cases.
