About Richard (Ric) Noll

Ric Noll is counsel at Giffen Lawyers in Waterloo, and family law sits at the centre of the practice, together with the property, business and estate questions that so often come tangled up in a separation. Ric works to stay mindful of how emotional and draining a family matter can be, both for the client and for the people around them.

Clients get a clear view of the routes open to them. Ric sorts through those choices with each person, whether that means a negotiated deal, the collaborative process, mediation, arbitration, a court case or some mix, and weighs what each path will cost against what it's likely to achieve in plain, realistic terms. When a file does go to court, Ric has appeared at every level of Ontario's courts and has helped other counsel on matters reaching into other provinces and the United States.

Ric's first stop after being called to the bar was Dueck, Sauer, Jutzi & Noll in Waterloo, which hired Ric as an associate. In 1998, when founding partner Robert Snyder retired, Ric was made a partner and the firm's name grew to include Noll. Ric joined Giffen in September 2024, bringing a clerk along, and the old firm, after 42 years serving Waterloo Region, has now closed.

Ric has spent a whole life in Waterloo Region, with an undergraduate degree from the University of Waterloo and law school at the University of Western Ontario. Raising four busy kids, all grown now, got Ric involved in local sport, from Laurel Creek Track and Field and Waterloo Regional Synchronized Swimming to baseball, hockey, field hockey and basketball groups.
