About Paul

Paul E. Briggs is a criminal defence lawyer in Surrey, British Columbia, with more than 25 years of experience representing individuals facing serious criminal charges throughout the province. His practice focuses on defending allegations of sexual assault and other sexual offences, assault and other serious violent offences, criminal appeals, and post-conviction proceedings, and he also advises clients on the immigration consequences of criminal charges, including inadmissibility, deportation proceedings and record suspension applications. He has appeared before all levels of court in British Columbia, including the Court of Appeal, and in matters before the Supreme Court of Canada. In one case, he successfully overturned a client's sexual assault conviction on appeal after the court found a miscarriage of justice had occurred, and went on to assist the client with the related immigration process. Briggs earned an honours undergraduate degree from the University of British Columbia and his law degree from the University of Victoria, and contributes legal education articles to Dial-A-Law, a program of the People's Law School.
