About Nancy

Nancy Pei is counsel at Smart & Biggar's Toronto office, where she has built an IP practice focused exclusively on life sciences, particularly pharmaceuticals and biologics. Her background as a licensed pharmacist informs her patent litigation work, which spans more than 25 years and includes appearances before the Federal Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Appeal, the Supreme Court of Canada, and the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. She also advises on data protection, patent listing under the Patented Medicines Regulations, pricing and reimbursement issues before the Patented Medicine Prices Review Board, and regulatory compliance matters. Nancy has edited the firm's Rx IP Update newsletter since its inception in 2001, becoming co-editor in 2023. She was called to the Ontario bar in 1997 and holds an LL.B. and a B.Sc. in Pharmacy, both from the University of Toronto.
