About Murray
Murray Rankin, KC co-founded Arvay Finlay and is now counsel at the firm, with deep experience in environmental, Indigenous, and information law. He was a law professor at the University of Victoria, served as British Columbia's Chief Treaty Negotiator in 1994, and was a Member of Parliament for Victoria from 2012 to 2019. He later served as British Columbia's Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation from 2020 to 2024 and was appointed the first Chair of Canada's National Security and Intelligence Review Agency. His legislative contributions include work on freedom of information laws, medical assistance in dying, and Indigenous rights, including the Haida Nation Recognition Act. He holds law degrees from the University of Toronto and Harvard Law School, and received an honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of Victoria in 2025.
