About Michael
Michael Steinberg is a Toronto lawyer who practises property tax assessment and appeal law, advising property owners, business owners, tenants, property managers, developers, and municipalities across Ontario. He focuses on assessment appeals for commercial, industrial, and multi-residential properties, reviewing the working papers of the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation against actual property performance data. His practice also covers full and partial tax exemptions and rebates, and disputes over commercial and industrial lease interpretation and the allocation of property tax between landlords and tenants. He has appeared before the Assessment Review Board, the Ontario Municipal Board (now the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal), the Environmental Appeal Board, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, and the Ontario Court of Appeal. Michael holds a J.D. from the University of Toronto (1973) and a B.A. (Hons.) from the University of Manitoba (1970), and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1975. He has lectured on property taxation and assessment topics for the Canadian Institute and the Law Society of Ontario's continuing legal education program.
