Michael Bloom

About Michael

Michael Bloom is a criminal defence lawyer who represents clients throughout British Columbia, including Vancouver, Surrey, Victoria, Kelowna, and Abbotsford. He began his career as a Professional Engineer before pursuing law at the University of Western Ontario, where he graduated with multiple first-in-class academic awards. After law school, the Supreme Court of British Columbia recruited him as a judicial law clerk, and he later joined the trial Crown prosecution team at Surrey Provincial Court, prosecuting hundreds of criminal cases for the Criminal Justice Branch. Bloom then left the Crown's office to practise criminal defence, drawing on his prosecutorial background to assess disclosure and identify weaknesses in the Crown's case. He trained under the late Vancouver defence lawyer Russ Chamberlain, Q.C., working alongside him until Chamberlain's death in March 2019, after which Bloom took over his practice. His work covers sexual offence, domestic violence, weapons, drug, and impaired driving charges, among other criminal matters.
