Indigenous LawMichael A. Johnston is a certified specialist in criminal law, recognized as such by the Law Society of Ontario. His practice focuses on criminal and quasi-criminal litigation, and he has appeared at all levels of court in Ontario as well as at the Supreme Court of Canada. He handles matters ranging from bail hearings and trials to weapons and firearms charges, impaired driving offences, and Charter challenges involving search and seizure. He has argued successful Charter applications that led to the exclusion of firearms, cash, drugs and breath samples obtained through improper police conduct. He also represents Indigenous clients, with attention to Gladue factors in sentencing. He is fluent in Spanish and conversant in French, accepts Legal Aid Ontario certificates, and is a member of JusticeNet, which offers reduced-fee legal services.
