About Kristian

Kristian Toivonen is a partner at KMSC Law LLP focused on surface rights and civil litigation, representing landowners in pipeline, padsite and transmission line acquisitions, rental reviews, and unpaid rent recovery, as well as debt enforcement, construction and mineral liens, and environmental contamination matters. He holds a BSc in Biological Sciences from the University of Alberta (2016) and a JD from the University of Calgary (2020), and before law worked as a wildland firefighter in Alberta and British Columbia. Kristian summered and articled at KMSC Law before joining as an associate in 2021, and was called to the Alberta bar that year and the British Columbia bar in 2026. He regularly appears before the Alberta Land and Property Rights Tribunal, the Environmental Appeals Board, the Alberta Energy Regulator and the British Columbia Surface Rights Board.
