About Jennifer

Jennifer Canas was called to the bar in 1987 and gained private practice experience in employment and labour law at a major Vancouver law firm before becoming Senior Legal Counsel for the Langley School Board in 1990, the first lawyer in the province to work as in-house counsel for a school board. She later took over the board's Human Resources department as Assistant Superintendent, chief negotiator for teacher and non-teacher bargaining, and led serious employee misconduct investigations. Jennifer completed a Bachelor's degree focused on labour relations and personnel management at the University of British Columbia, a Master of Science in Personnel Management and Labour Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science, and a Bachelor of Laws from Queen's University focused on employment and labour law. Her other experience includes Human Resources Manager for the Surrey School Board and recruitment and labour relations advisor roles at Vancouver General Hospital.
