About Jean-Pierre

Jean-Pierre Ménard founded what became Ménard, Martin Avocats, a Quebec firm that represents patients and other users of the health care system in cases of medical, hospital, and dental liability. He began private practice in 1981 with the goal of developing expertise defending victims of the health care system. The firm he leads has represented plaintiffs in a number of major class actions concerning the treatment of residents in Quebec long-term care facilities (CHSLDs) and psychiatric patients, including class actions against the CHSLD Champlain Marie-Victorin facility and the CISSS de la Montérégie-Centre (the Action Autonomie case concerning preventive custody in health institutions). He holds a law degree in sciences juridiques from UQAM (1978) and was admitted to the Barreau du Québec in 1980.
