About Jean

Jean Dury is a criminal and penal lawyer who has practised criminal law for nearly 40 years, appearing before courts in several cities and provinces. Dury represents clients across a wide range of criminal matters, including assault and threats, mischief, domestic violence, impaired driving, theft and fraud, break and enter, arson, drug offences, murder and attempted murder, criminal negligence, and sexual offences. Since the mid-1980s, Dury has represented teachers facing false accusations of sexual abuse by students, and has advocated for more rigorous investigative standards in these cases. Dury has given presentations to teachers' unions on their rights in abuse allegations and trained lawyers on cross-examining complainants in sexual matters at the 2019 annual conference of the Association québécoise des avocats et des avocates de la défense. Dury also handles matters involving cannabis law and disciplinary law before professional orders. Dury ran as a Green Party candidate in the 1993 Quebec provincial election to advocate for cannabis legalization.
