Civil Litigation & Dispute ResolutionJanet Carpenter is a partner in Stewart McKelvey's St. John's office and leads the firm's health law team there, called to the Newfoundland and Labrador bar in 2007. Her advisory and civil litigation practice focuses on health, privacy, access to information and cybersecurity, and she defends healthcare organizations and professionals in medical malpractice claims. She acted as counsel to the Regional Health Authorities in Newfoundland and Labrador following one of the largest cybersecurity incidents in Canadian history, and her class action work has included medical malpractice and privacy breach claims. Carpenter holds an LLB and MHSA from Dalhousie University (2006) and a B.Sc. (honours) also from Dalhousie (1999), and has appeared at all levels of court in Newfoundland and Labrador and as counsel at a Commission of Inquiry.
