About James

James (Jim) Smith co-founded Osuji & Smith Lawyers and is now retired from active practice. Jim grew up in southern Alberta and worked in oil and gas and construction before attending university, earning a Bachelor of Education from the University of Calgary in 1970. Jim taught and later became a principal in Grande Prairie County before returning to Calgary, where Jim entered one of the first classes at the University of Calgary's new Faculty of Law in 1976, graduating with an LL.B. in 1979 and being called to the Alberta Bar in 1980. Jim practised in litigation, real estate, wills and estates, business law, personal injury and employment law over a long career with the firm.
