James S. McPike, known as Jim, was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta. He received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Saskatchewan and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Lethbridge before earning his Bachelor of Law from the University of Alberta. He was admitted to the Law Society of Alberta in 1981. McPike taught high school English at the Lethbridge Collegiate Institute before practicing law in the Edmonton area, where he focuses on family law, litigation, real estate, and criminal defence.
