Préfontaine grew up in the Outaouais region and graduated with a degree in civil law from the University of Ottawa's Faculty of Law in December 2023. As part of her studies she took part in a cooperative education program that gave her early exposure to the judicial system, gaining experience in legal research, drafting legal opinions, and argumentation. She was admitted to the Barreau du Québec in September 2025 after completing the Bar School's professional training program. Her practice focuses on family law.
