About Israel Balter

Israel Balter is a Toronto employment and human rights lawyer with more than three decades of experience, and since the spring of 2020 a partner at Duntrune LLP. The work comes from both sides of the workplace: employers retain Israel regularly, and so do employees.

Clients hear where their matter stands at each step along the way, and Israel Balter treats them as partners in the process. Nobody should feel like an imposition on Israel's time. The work itself means analysing the problem, then setting out a strategy, explaining it and carrying it through, with real emphasis on persistent, efficient turnaround.

In 2021 Israel Balter wrote two pieces for the firm's blog on where Ontario law left employers. One of them took on a question that worried many businesses during the stay-at-home order: who decides whether a job can be done from home? Under the provincial regulation, Israel explained, that call belonged to the employer, not the police or the employees themselves.
