About Graham M. Bennett

Graham M. Bennett is a trial lawyer and partner at Lerners LLP in Kitchener, working mainly on serious and catastrophic injuries, fatalities and civil sexual assault claims. Insurance litigation rounds out the practice, large-loss municipal liability work included. The Law Society of Ontario has certified Graham as a Specialist in Civil Litigation, and for Graham, one of the most satisfying parts of the job is making sure seriously hurt people, children especially, are fairly compensated and looked after.

The Ontario call came in 1993, after a 1991 law degree from the University of Ottawa. Early on, Graham was a regular in criminal court, sometimes defending the accused and sometimes appearing for the Crown. Many years as a partner at Giffen LLP followed, along with a long run as preferred counsel to a number of insurance companies before the turn to plaintiff injury work. Graham then ran Graham Bennett Law Professional Corporation, a litigation practice in downtown Kitchener's Heritage District, and came to Lerners as a partner in October 2020 as the firm opened its Waterloo Region office.

Graham's record reaches every level of court in Ontario and the Supreme Court of Canada, with many jury trials for plaintiffs and for defendants, hearings before administrative tribunals and a steady stream of private mediations. Graham is a trained mediator as well, holding a 2008 certificate from Osgoode Hall, and spent many years as a sessional lecturer teaching Canadian Legal Procedure in the University of Waterloo's political science department. Graham's current term on the Waterloo Region Law Association's Board of Trustees runs from 2025 to 2027.

Life outside the office has been just as varied. Graham grew up in both the country and the city, held a commission as an officer in the Canadian Armed Forces, and has raised four children. Motorcycles have been a love all of Graham's life, with travels by bike across much of the world, and injured riders and the insurance rules that apply to them are a special interest of the practice. Waterloo Region has been home since 1998, and the team's working rule is the golden one: treat each client the way you'd want to be treated yourself.
