Civil Litigation & Dispute ResolutionGary Caplan was called to the Ontario Bar in 1980 and is recognized by the Law Society of Ontario as a Certified Specialist in Civil Litigation. He earned a BA from McGill University and an LLB from the University of Toronto Law School, followed by two LLM degrees from Osgoode Hall Law School, one in Constitutional Law and one in Alternative Dispute Resolution. A chartered mediator and arbitrator, he belongs to the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in London. Beyond his practice as a barrister, mediator, and arbitrator, he lectures and writes frequently and holds adjunct professor appointments at Osgoode Hall, the University of Toronto, and Queen's Law School. He served as lead counsel in Caplan v. Atas, 2021 ONSC 670, where the Ontario Superior Court recognized the tort of online internet harassment for the first time in the province.
