About Emily

Emily Bonnell is a lawyer in First Peoples Law's Ottawa office, called to the bar in Ontario. She grew up in Treaty 6 territory in northern Alberta and became a lawyer to support Indigenous communities in enforcing their rights and protecting their lands and culture, drawing on a background in social work. Her practice includes governance and legislative drafting, Specific Claims and litigation, Nation-to-Nation negotiations, land use planning and economic development, and she advises on consultation matters, rights enforcement and industry benefit agreements. She is currently on leave.
