About Elisabeth

Elisabeth Strain founded Strain and Company in 2003, after establishing her own family law practice in Nanaimo in 1996. She was called to the bar in 1989 and articled with Richard T. Israels, Q.C., a Vancouver criminal defence lawyer, before moving to Nanaimo to work as a Crown prosecutor until 1993, handling sexual assault and child sexual assault cases and serving as Youth Court Coordinator. She moved into family law in 1994 at Johnston, Lewis and Company, representing the Ministry of Children and Families and acting as parents' counsel in child apprehension matters. Her practice today focuses on family law, mediation, wills and estates, surrogacy, adoption, and Indigenous and environmental law. She supports the duty counsel and family advice clinic programs offered through the Legal Services Society and is now semi-retired, focusing on settling cases outside the courtroom rather than trial work.
