Bankruptcy & InsolvencyDoug Bourassa is a partner in Torkin Manes' Litigation & Dispute Resolution and Commercial Real Estate groups. He has conducted numerous trials as lead counsel before the Superior Court of Justice and has argued appeals before the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada. Doug is frequently retained by private lenders for commercial and residential mortgage remedies, including power of sale, receivership, foreclosure, and judicial sale proceedings, and he regularly handles complex subordinate mortgage disputes. His real estate litigation work also covers ownership disputes, contested closings, easements, and commercial lease enforcement. Beyond real estate, Doug acts in a range of commercial disputes and fraud-related litigation, including Mareva injunctions and Norwich orders. He was called to the Ontario bar in 2005 after earning his LLB and BA from Western University. He is a frequent speaker and author on litigation and real estate topics for the Law Society of Ontario and various bar associations, and he has been recognized in Best Lawyers in Canada for corporate and commercial litigation.
