About Desiree

Desiree Syroid practises family and criminal law, obtaining her Juris Doctor from the University of Alberta and being called to the Alberta bar in 2021 and to the British Columbia bar in 2026. During law school she won the David Mochan Memorial Prize in Criminal Law and served as a Criminal Law Supervisor with the Faculty of Law's legal clinic. She articled in youth and adult criminal defence and family law, then practised as a criminal defence lawyer with Legal Aid Alberta, appearing regularly in Mental Health Court and Domestic Violence Court on complex, contested matters. That experience gives her particular insight into cases where family and criminal proceedings intersect, such as where criminal allegations or orders affect parenting and contact.
